Reply:First of all, I'm not in your area. I will tell you to find an oral surgeon and get a consultation. They are typically the ones placing dental implants and doing the extractions. Your general dentist would place the crown on top. Every dentist charges different fees, but usually in the same city they are in the same price range. Some dentists charge different fees for each type of implant (there are many brands). I know this isn't real specific, but it's a start. Good Luck!

Good dental plan that covers oral surgery?
My boyfriend needs his wisdom teeth pulled plus some other teeth removed. He has no dental insurance and lives in Pennsylvania. The dentist estimated him a cost of about $1945, but if his other teeth that need removed have to be removed surgically then thats another $900. His credit isn't that good and I don't think that Care Credit will apporove him. He won't go to the dental school b/c he had a bad experience with a previous dentist and is afraid. Any suggestions on a good dental plan?

The waiting periods on dental insurance for major treatment such as oral surgery and wisdom teeth extraction is 18 months. This means you have to wait until the 19th month to get the procedure done and then the insurance only pays 50% of the bill. Plus you have yearly maximums and yearly deductibles.

Dental cleaning after heart surgery ?

Is correcting a speech slur (in regards to orthognathic surgery) a cosmetic/dental reason to have it done?
The only reason I would need orthognathic surgery is to correct a speech slur. I have no other side effects otherwise. So would my insurance cover it if they do not insure you for cosmetic procedures?! Thanks!

This oral surgery is for my nephew, a student who has no dental insurance. It is a requirement prior to joining the Peace Corps.

Call the dental school at UC SF. You might get a deal if he is willing to be a practice patient for a student. They have a teacher - who is a very competent dentist - standing at one elbow, so if anything goes wrong the teacher steps in. It takes longer than normal, though.

Do dental and orthodontics school students offer to do jaw surgery for free?
Does anybody know if Dental and Orthodontics schools have a program where their student will perform lower jaw surgery for free or a discounted rate?

If you really need jaw surgery, it will not be done by a 'student' - it would be done by an oral surgery resident. a resident is someone who has a doctorate, but is training in a specialty, such as oral /maxillofacial surgery. they are the best of the best to even get INTO those programs AND they're monitorred by attending doctors.
If you watch, say, House or ER on TV, you'll see residents -- they aren't as smart as the older docs, but they're still capable of saving lives and all that good stuff.
So, call the dental school, explain what you need and they'll set you up a referral. you will have ot talk to the docs in that program with some sort of xrays and consultation; after that they'll be able to give you an idea of how much it will cost. DEFINITELY less than in teh private sector, for sure.

Call the local university which has a dental school near you and they can advise you about their policies for patient care.
If you are in a dire circumstance, call your county health department for a referral.

You may be able to find medical schools that have clinics that would offer reduced pricing. I did a quick Google search and have included a link below that provides an example of this type of clinic. Whatever you decide, med school clinic or licensed MD, make sure you do some research before you have this surgery. There are many risks with this type of surgery, including short term numbness (common), long term numbness, and facial paralysis (rare) because of the nerves that run through your jaw. If you choose to go with a medical school clinic, make sure that the procedure will be fully supervised by an experienced oral surgeon. Good luck! If you decide to go through with the surgery, you should check out yahoo groups. They have some excellent orthognatic (and related) surgery communities.

I think you are asking about electrosurgery for your gums. The dentist needs to check if you have excess tissue covering your teeth. If so, it can be reshaped so that the teeth appear larger. It is a bloodless procedure and the results are great!
