Am afraid the wound may not heal quickly thereby causing more problems than the holes in the tooth. Please advice me.
Am a diabetes (DM) patient. Am scheduled for dental surgery (tooth removal) in the next 24hours.?
If you had visited the dentist once in every six months, your tooth extraction should have been avoided. Please tell the dentist that you are a diabetic patient. They will administer antibiotics soon after tooth extraction.
Please note that most of the persons undergoing Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) are diabetic patients.

Reply:Call your dentist today, before the procedure and make sure they know you are diabetic. They might put you on antibiotics as a precaution. Do you take insulin?? Because if you do then it might take longer for them to heal, but if you're not on insulin yet they should heal fine.
Now if you can't eat before the surgery, as I'm sure you can't and you do take insulin DO NOT take your insulin if you can't eat. But if the doctor runs an IV continuously see if it just normal saline or saline with dextrose (sugar) in it. If he uses the sugar kind then take your insulin shortly before the procedure because you'll be getting all that sugar. But if it's just the normal saline don't take your insulin. Good Luck

Reply:Is your blood sugar stable? Are you keeping it as close to normal as possible? Does the dentist know your are diabetic? If the answer is yes, then you need to have it done. Bad teeth can cause as many problems as diabetes if left untreated. If you get an abcess from a bad tooth, the infection can affect your whole body since your immune system is not where it should be. Do it and you should be fine. Keep a positive attitude and quit stressing. It will be okay.

I had a toe removed due to an infection that would not heal and found out at that time I had DM, but had no complications.
Discuss this with your Doc, you may demand tooth removal in the hospital (surgery) if you feel this is a necessity.
Some dentists are dental surgeons, find out and know ALL your options.

Why did I have a nose bleed after dental surgery?
I have been having treatments over the last few months to get veneers, but due to problems with fitting and sizes, ive had three sets of new temps so far, I got home after 2 hours of removing temps, and scaling, to replace with new temps, and had 16 injections, (i could feel pain all the time) I heard her mention articaine, but not sure if all 16 were this. when i got home, i went to the mirror and realise i had a nose bleed, from both nostrils.. why is this? did i have too many injections or was my nose lining damaged with the injections? (i had 4 up by each side of nose near to my eye via my gums.)
time before this, i had 13 injections..which hurt too! that time i was all dizzy and felt like i was drunk..
Can anyone help?

It sounds like a posttraumatic nose bleed. An artery could have been highly annoyed by all the injections. Articaine (septocaine) also has epinephrine in it.....that's why you felt dizzy and drunk.
Side effects of epinephrine are:
•anxiety, restlessness
•blurred vision
•difficulty breathing
•dizziness, drowsiness
•irregular heartbeat (palpitations)
•nausea, vomiting
•seizures (convulsions)
•skin rash, itching (hives)
•swelling of the face or mouth
•tremors
Please advise your dentist at your next visit of the side effects...especially the nose bleed.
I'd be interested to know how long it took for the nose bleed to stop. Email me if you get a chance.

Lots of companys do teeth bleaching and dentists can cost £350 whereas this cost me about £50. Basically you get some impression trays and gel sent to you. You take an impression of your teeth and send it of to texas. 7 days later thin plastic gum sheilds arrive and you syringe in a tiny bit of gel into each tooth cavity and leave them in over night. Took about 2 weeks to do them but the are lovely and white now-people say how good they look. My friend is a dentist and he said that it doesnt damage your enamel as long as you get a weak solution about 12% or less. What it does is bleach out the stains that are deep in the tooth. I stopped coffee %26amp; tea while I did the course but now red wine / tea coffee doesnt stain as bad. they say tht you should 'top up' once a month but I dont need too...hope it helps

Why dont you have to sign a consent form for dental surgery, when you do for all/most other types of surgery?
Because the document will not protect the dentist from legal action.
While it is true in the US that we have "informed consent laws", these laws protect a dentist only to the extent that what his actions do not constitute negligence.
To clarify, all dentists are required to tell their patients the risks of the procedures they perform. However, just because a specific injury is a "risk" of a particular procedure, doesn't mean that the dentist was not negligent.
Just because lingual nerve injury may be a risk in a wisdom tooth extraction procedure doesn't mean that if the damage is done that the procedure was done properly.
Public policy does not allow US dentists to hide behind these informed consent laws ia.

I don't think I'm going to go get those wisdom teeth pulled now.
