How much to have dental surgery?

My cat was mistreated as a kitty .. he's 4 and some of his teeth are bad. The best thing for him is to have them pulled.

I don't want to hear "it's expensive"

I don't want to hear "ask a vet"

I WANT TO HEAR FROM PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD IT DONE! PEOPLE WITH A BRAIN :)

Any idea on how much it would cost? Money isn't an issue .. just curious!

THANKS GUYS!

How much to have dental surgery?
As urbantigers79 said, the prices really do vary wildly, even within the US. I've heard of people spending as little as $80 - $100 on the basic dental. I think my vet charges $160, which is probably still on the low end. Some vets charge $300 or more. Those prices don't include extractions, which might cost anywhere from $20 - $100 each.
Reply:It might help if you say where you live.

Fact is, the cost of dental treatment can vary widely, depending on what you have done, whether you have pre-op blood tests done, what anaesthetic is used, whether the cat is put on an IV drip, whether X rays are needed etc. It cost me over £300 when my cat had a dental last year (included 2 extractions) but it can cost as little as £100 - £150.
Reply:I can tell you what I've paid, but of course that's my area and yours may be more or less depending on the cost of living. Most vets require pre-anesthesia bloodwork, and that usually runs around $100. The cut-off is usually age 5, but it's a good idea to do anyway. The actual dental itself can run between $150-300, depending on the number of extractions and how complicated they are. Expect also to get antibiotics (another $15-20) as the dental releases lots of bacteria into the system, and also pain medication (add $15-20). No, it isn't a cheap procedure, but bad teeth in addition to being very painful cause lots of toxins in the system, which can lead to heart disease and kidney disease.

Great idea to have his teeth taken care of - it's very important, and so neglected!
