Our new shelter cat has stomatitis. Vet says $2300 dental surgery needed. Do people know alternatives?

Call other vets and see what they would charge. Some will work with you and telling them it's a rescue cat should really help. All the best;~)

Our new shelter cat has stomatitis. Vet says $2300 dental surgery needed. Do people know alternatives?
oh im so sorry. if you don't have enough money and the cat is going through pain, then (GOSH IM SO SORRY CUZ I H8 SAYING THIS) put it down. Sorry but dont put the cat through any more pain if you cant afford the surgery
Reply:Wow my new set of dentures didn't cost that much..

Is there a pet health insurance you can get?
Reply:See another vet for alternatives- ie. teeth brushing (I am not a vet, don't know) but don't put the cat down over this- even a cat who looses teeth can have a good life. People told me my blind cat should be put down, too- what is wrong with people?
Reply:Stomatitis is a very difficult problem to deal with. I think it may have something to do with the cat's genetic heritage. Sometimes the removal of all the teeth can help with the situation.

Personally I am very much taken with homeopathy for chronic conditions of this sort. I would consult a qualified veterinary homeopath or a homeopathic veterinarian (100% homeopathy) to seek a remedy to treat the constitutional problem the cat has (the stomatitis is just a manifestation of the real problem).

To start off the initial consultation will be $200 or less. The remedies themselves cost next to nothing. After a remedy is given you must keep records of what is going on with the cat etc. and do a followup conversation with the homeopath. Then the remedy will be repeated at a higher dosage level if it seems to be having the right effect.

I think it would be an excellent investment of time and money as it could clear the situation up completely over time and the cat will be in much better condition in the end.

If you want suggestions about how to find a qualified professional you can email me for ideas. I use one and know of another online and also a veterinary homeopath who runs a Yahoo list. As a matter of fact you might join that group: ClassicalHomeopathy/Pets and ask your question there. The list leader can be consulted and takes on individual cases.

You can get some understanding of the principles of homeopathy by going to: http://www.littlebigcat.com and reading Dr. Jean Hovfe's article "Introduction to Homeopathy". At http://www.homoeopathyclassical.com. The principles and remedies for homeopathy are the same for people and for animals. To join the Yahoo group go to: http://yahoogroups.com and put in a search for classicalhomeopathy/pets.
