Next friday, I'll be going through dental surgery. Five of my teeth are being pulled out and one of them......

Five of my teeth will be pulled out and one of them will be pushed into position (so we're fixing SIX teeth in one day). The procedure should last between 45 minutes to an hour. I'm not scared, acutally, about the surgery, since I will be unconscious and they said they'd apply general anesthesia to my mouth. I was told I really wouldn't feel/remember anything. I guess I'm fine with that, but I'm a bit scared when I think about the fact that they will have to inject some sort of needle in my veins to make me fall asleep. I was told this would hurt, but it would only last a second. Is it true? Does anybody have a previous experience they'd like to share that would (HOPEFULLY) make me feel comfortable? Reply:stings for a second - you are asleep before you know it
Reply:The needle in the arm is nothing. More like a little sharp zap and it's done. You'll be asleep within seconds once they administer the anesthetic.
Reply:When you get the needle it does burn, but it only last for a few seconds...it sort of resembles being bit by a fire ant (red ant). I had my four wisdom teeth pulled out and they put me under and it wasn't that bad.

they talk to you constantly when you're being prepped, honestly, you don't even know the needle has gone in.





i remember being asked how much i weighed and then being asked to count backwards from 100 - i only got to 95 and then i woke up and it was all over!

Reply:I had four wisdom teeth and two molars removed at the same time a year ago. All I remember of the surgery is the nurse pricking the back of my hand with the needle. Next thing I knew I was standing at the front desk.





Four things to watch:


1) I fell asleep on the couch immediately after I got home while my wife went to walmart....and almost drowned in my own bllod


2) Bone chips are a royal pain as they work to the surface


3) Do everything that you can to avoid getting a dry socket.Now that hurts


4) Vicodin is your friend!!!!!!!

Reply:Ive been through it before. I got all four of my wisdom teeth pulled out and I too was put to sleep. Its easy!!! The dentist give you a shot or an IV, and your out immediately. Its not like you drowse off super slow. They also apply pain medicatin as well.





It took an hour for my dentist to be done. I woke up sitting upright with gauze in my mouth. It was just alittle bit bloody and I wasnt in pain at all. I was just super numb. I didnt have to come back unless the stitches in my mouth, which close up on their own, didnt heal.





Thats it. It was an easy experience. Your being put to sleep so you wont know whats going on. The scary part is looking at the needle going into your arm. Just squeeze the arm of the chair;)
Reply:the before is not a problem...you will be in some pain after you wake up (not soon after, but)...if you have a hard time handling pain, then you need to make sure you are ready with the pain meds an hour or 2 after you wake up...
Reply:Ive been in several dental surgeries, my teeth used to be extremely screwed up.


The injection does hurt but the people that inject it are very experienced professionals (anesthesiologists) who do this stuff a whole lot. This medicine really helps because after the initial pain of the shot you will start to feel drowsy and fall asleep in about 5-10 minutes and you won't feel the in surgery pain. You might have some strange dreams though (I had some really weird ones) You will be fine though with very minimal pain. Think about back 100 years ago they didn't have this medicine at all. They used to just tie people down to the table.


You will have a good pain free surgery

anyway, for my surgery, I asked for laughing gas. It basically makes you (legally) high. lol


The only pain that I felt was a few pinches on the roof of my mouth, from when they gave me the numbing injections. It would have felt much worse if I haden't gotten laughting gas.


I don't know how much it would hurt to get a tooth re-posistioned(ouch!), but as long as they numb you, you shouldn't feel anything. Afterwards, once the numbing stuff wears off, they should give you some perscription like Vicoden, oxycotin, ect. They also (should) give you some sort of anti-bacterial, to aviod infection. I didn't get an anti-bacterial, but my mom said I should have asked for one.





Definitially ask for laughing gas if it is an option. It is freaking amazing!
