Did my dental surgeon do something wrong, or is this normal?

I had dental surgery to remove all my wisdom teeth about three months ago. One of the wounds on the bottom started to have hard black material come out of it. This material has now punched a hole in my gums, and continued to come out. It doesn't hurt badely, but instead feels more like when you have a piece of popcorn stuck in your teeth. Does anybody know what this is, and why it's hapening?

Did my dental surgeon do something wrong, or is this normal?
Contrary to your other responder, it is NOT DRY SOCKET.

It is either a piece of the wisdom tooth that broke off, root perhaps, OR, a piece of bone.

Either way, it can come out on its own, or you can return to the surgeon and have her remove it. If it is getting infected, have the surgeon remove it.
Reply:return to your dentist.. it sounds like you might have dry socket.. its not bad.. and is treatable. but needs to be examined to be sure how far along and be sure this is what the problem is.
Reply:If it's been 3 months and you haven't ad pain before this - I'd guess that it is NOT a dried socket.

If the material is sharp it may be a piece of bone that has worked it's way to the surface. This sounds odd but a tooth sits within a rim of bone, and the physical removal of a tooth can cause weekness or breakage of the bone.

If concerned always contact your dentist.
