Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a little different in the U.S., both in terms of training and scope.





In the U.S., oral surgeons vary significantly in the kind of work they do. Generally, all of them perform dentoalveolar surgery and orthognathic surgery as well as treat facial trauma. Most deal with pathology (e.g. cysts, tumors, etc.) of the oral/maxillofacial region, but to significantly varying degrees.





Some oral surgeons perform facial cosmetic procedures (e.g. nose-jobs, facelifts). Others focus on head/neck cancer. Others on trauma.





It's a pretty diverse field.
