Is versed commonly used for IV sedation during teeth extractions? I had it for a biopsy surgery ( not dental) and it was wonderful. Is it considered consicious sedation.? I know it will be costly, but comfortable at the same time. I do not drive therefore someone would drive and wait for me. I am terrified of dentists due to bad experiences.
Can a full mouth extraction ( if agreed by the dentist). be done using this anestesia?
Does the cost depend on the amount of time it is being used for the procedure? I do not want any root canals or caps or extreme make overs at my age.(63). Prefer this question is answered by dentist or someome who had the procedure done.
Re Dental IV sedation...Versed?
The Drug Versed is used in a variety of ways besides medical dentistry. It is also used in the medical field as well. I like to use it when I am performing procedures it generally relaxes the patient, so that they are not so stressed out.
Reply:Well, the drug used varies by the practitioner, but IV sedation dentistry is not at all uncommon. I know two dentists in my area (New Hampshire) who do it.
If all you want is to have all your teeth extracted, then you can get IV sedation from any oral surgeon! They are specially trained to administer those drugs as well as knowing advanced life support tecnicques, which is critical if you're doing something that supresses your breathing, heart rate etc.
You should seriously SERIOUSLY considering saving some (2,4,6....?) lower teeth. If you're 63 you could live another 20-30 years easy, and a complete lower denture SUCKS! Ask anyone who has em! uppers are ok, more or lss, but lowers don't work. I would HONESTLY saw off my left foot and get a prosthetic foot before I would have a full lower denture. So ask your dentist about saving some lowers to hold a partial. MUCH better!
OOORRRRR, you can get implants on the lwoer to hold a partial, but this is much more expensive.
As for cost, in New England it's 5-600 dollars/hour for IV sedation - this is all in addition to the cost of the treatment, whatever you have done.
Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions!
