I'm getting more extractions, implants, root canals, fillings, the whole nine. It's an ongoing process, but I'll finally be able to smile without feeling self-conscious.
Anyway, I don't need any info on medications etc. safe to take while nursing; I got all that. Not to sound ungrateful, just don't want to waste your time...
Has anyone had extensive dental work/oral surgery while caring for a new baby? Or surgical procedures in general?
Some tips or personal experiences, please, to ease my mind?
Extensive dental work and new baby?
Try to have as many things done in advance as possible as you will probably be more worn out than you plan. I would pre-make and pre-freeze a week or so worth of meals. That way you can just pop something in the oven without having to worry about trips to the grocery store, etc. or making the time to cook.
It sounds like you are nursing, so you don't need to stock up on formula but be sure to stock up on diapers, wipes, laundry detergent, etc as extra trips will be more stressful with you not feeling well and having baby in tow and you don't want the added stress of running out of anything.
I had surgery shortly after and my sister was a god-send. I had her drive me to follow-up appointments, pick up prescriptions, and pick up stuff for baby if the need arose. She would also watch him for an hour if I needed to take a nap. Try to find a person that can be your on-call helper.
I'm not sure how old your baby is. But, if he plays well with toys, I would suggest introducing a few new toys to keep him occupied immediately after the surgery atleast for the first day or two. If he's still pretty young though, that's not really neccessary.
Good luck and remember to ask for help if you need it.
Reply:I got a wisdom tooth out. Not fun. My husband made some awesome soups and stews for me so I could still eat well and keep up my food intake for baby. Just be careful, my baby kept grabbing my face.
Reply:no, but i will be going through the same thing in two months when i give birth. good luck. you wont regret it!!!
Reply:that's what i'm going through, without the baby (yet). as long as you have someone who can help you out with the baby, and taking care of you, you'll be fine. good luck! i've gotten the removals out of the way, just need the root canals, etc done. congrats on the baby.
