When I finish dental school and want to further specialize in Oral surgery and I become a oral surgeon. Can...

I open up my own private practice and do both what a general dentist does and what an oral surgeon does.

Can you tell me what the advantageous and disadvantageos of this.

When I finish dental school and want to further specialize in Oral surgery and I become a oral surgeon. Can...
advantages:

you stay busy

you don't do the same thing everyday

disadvantages:

you are doing 35$ exams when you could be doing a $1000 FMTE with IV sedation

you will need a hygienist (and they are expenisve beyotches)

you will need equipment for endo and other things on top of your oral surgery expenses.

you are better off sticking to one or the other. seriously, you will be happier being a straight up oral surgeon.

i work at a VA hospital in the dental department. we have perio, oral surg, endo, pros and general practice residents. believe me, there is so much money in all of this stuff. you should just really invest in yourself, your staff and your office and just do the oral surgery.
