Orthognathic Surgery?

My jaw is out of proportion as it is pushed way over the right, creating an asymmetrical look on my face.

When I went to go see an orthognathic surgeon, he said that the only way for him to perform the procedure on my jaw, is if I wear braces for three years. Than he can do it.

So I went to go see an orthodontist from which the surgeon had recommended me to, and well I found that I had to go through all these steps before I can even get my braces. Which is all costing a lot of money in addition (x-rays, tooth extractions, etc)

All in all, I just want my JAW SURGERY!

Seeing as how the dental industry tends to be full of scams, I wanna know if ortho surgery can really be performed before one can wear braces? I personally feel that their trying to scam me.

I just want my jaw surgery asap. Also, how much does it cost?

Since I'm gonna get braces, neither the orthodontist and the surgeon have told me the price, so I'm guessing my ortho is part of my braces plan which there4 is covered?

Orthognathic Surgery?
They are not scamming you. My daughter wore braces for years until they finally got her teeth aligned perfectly. Then she had jaw surgery which was basically the last step in a long journey. Six months after her jaw surgery her braces were finally removed. Braces and jaw surgery must go hand in hand. They use the bands on the teeth to hold the jaw in place. You cannot have jaw surgery without fallowing the steps.

Braces are expensive but so is the surgery. My insurance would never have paid for the jaw surgery without following proper procedures. The surgery $25,000 just for the surgery and $5000 just for the surgeon not to mention the cost of the braces. My insurance paid every penny of the surgery but only a portion of the braces. But my daughter has a hollywood perfect smile now because of all she went through.

Two different doctor's Orthodontist/oral surgeon two different bills.
Reply:It is an unusual sequence that you went to an orthognathic surgeon before the orthodontist. That's kind of like asking a contractor to build a house foundation before the architect has drawn up the plans!
