Dental questions?

Hi, I am getting my first real dental surgery in 25 years. Im not scared but just want some info. I was told that i will have to were a dental dam, what is this, how does it go on, is it confortable,( my friends say that it makes you not able to close your mouth) they are doing a double root canal.

Dental questions?
A dental dam is used for isolation. A small clamp is placed around the tooth, the dental dam is a thin square of latex that goes around the clamp. Then a frame is used to stretch the dam. It is not very uncomfortable, just a little annoying. It is used to keep anything the dentist uses from getting in the mouth, and to stop saliva from getting to the tooth. You will first have the injection. Then the dam will be placed. Some dentists use whats called a mouth prop. It allows you to rest your teeth while still having your mouth open. If they do not use a mouth prop you will not be able to close your mouth all the way. Hope this helps. Feel free to send me a message if you have anymore questions.
Reply:It is really not that bad. I had a root canal a few weeks ago. It was pretty easy and it only took about a half hour. I have seen many people sleep through stuff like that Report It
