I open up my own private practice and do both what a general dentist does and what an oral surgeon does.
Can you tell me what the advantageous and disadvantageos of this.
PLEASE HELP:)
When I finish dental school and want to further specialize in Oral surgery and I become a oral surgeon. Can...
In most states, you would have to advertise yourself as either a general dentist or a specialist, like an oral surgeon. Most specialists are dependent on referrals from other general dentists. If you advertise as an oral surgeon but also do general dentistry on the side, there may be a hesitancy to refer patients to you for fear that the patients wouldn't return to the general dentist. If you really love surgery and are good at it, you will probably be too busy to pursue a lot of simpler restorative cases. Good luck to you!
Reply:If you have the grades and go to the effort of specializing as an oral surgeon you will not want to be doing restorative dentistry.
Maybe you should consider being a general practitioner and doing a lot of surgery rather than referring out.
