Post dental surgery questions.?

My fiance had his wisdom teeth out 4 days ago. He had stitches on the bottom two. One on the top never came in all the way and the other top tooth did come in the the dentist left it open. My questions are:

How long does it normally take for the stitches to dissolve on their own?

How long will it take for the open hole to close up enough so he won't have to worry about food particles causing a problem?

Post dental surgery questions.?
there are many types of stitches...

But two main categories: self absorbable and not self absorbable...

in after surgical extraction we mostly use the second" not absorbable".... so don't wait it to be absorbed itself.. and after a week from the surgery the dentist " surgeon" removes the stitches.........

in general the socket needs two weeks to heal and close... but using a stitch will make that faster...
Reply:I had the same operation (an incredibly painful and difficult one!) literally a month ago. The stitches should dissolve within 10 days...sometimes 15. better to get them off by a dentist on the 10th day. otherwise the operated area may get infected. Mine has just healed this week.. Not totally... I still cant drink cold or hot or when I do it hurrrrts A LOT! I would say pay a visit to the dentist one more time to have a check and keep rinsing it with salty water few times a day... The dentist will probably wash the operated space after taking the stitches out. It is good cause otherwise again it can get infected. Well the hole will close in a week or two but it will still hurt and it will still need to be rinsed everyday for another month or so. Mine has been a month and I still keep mouthwashing it. Hope this helps!
